Hester raised an eyebrow. "So, I don't see any weapons. How do I know you don't have a knife hidden in your boot, or along your arm?" She nudged Storm, and they walked a step or two closer to Rabastan. "What do you sell, anyway? And no, I don't trust you. At all." Funny this. I can be perfectly rude to a complete stranger, and can't strike up a nice conversation with the boy next door. She shrugged inwardly. What the heck. Why not visit this guy's store? It was something new, at least. Almost like a real adventure. She said to herself sarcastically.

"If it would help prove to you that I mean you no harm I would gladly allow you to check for weapons." Rabastan said. "As for what I sell, I have a variety of items. Bows made by the elves, armour by the dwarves, a couple of Falsko spears. But my pride and joy are my Norsla daggers. They are hand crafted and perfectly balanced. Beautiful weapons I must say. Aside from those I have a couple of hand woven rugs as well as a random assortment of items. I find it easiest to deal in a vast assortment of items. Makes things much easier to sell." He added, flashing her a smile.

Hester took a breath, and tensed, about to swing out of the saddle, but stopped herself. She didn't know how to check for weapons anyway. What would patting the guy's back and arms gain her? Nothing, except a fair bit of embarrassment. "Norsla daggers?" She said curiously, though she squashed the thought that followed promptly. You don't have enough money. She told herself tartly. Besides, you're looking for a sword anyway. Wait... Am I? She wondered, bemused. What's the point of having a sword but no trainer? An idea hit her like lightning. The notice board! She could put up a notice saying a sword master was wanted... Someone was bound to see it! Her heartbeat and breathing quickened for a second, and she hardly dared to hope that she might actually be able to do this. But then... Oh ####. Parents. They'd find out. Someone would be bound to go tell them their daughter was putting up wanted ads. The thought felt like a lead weight, and it drowned any remaining hopes she had. The world went dark, a cloud hid the sun. She didn't have a solution after all. But what if no-one knew it was you? A little voice asked. What if? A tiny spark lit itself in Hester's mind. It was worth a try, at least. She looked down at Rabastan. "You don't have any swords, by any chance?" She asked, in what she hoped was a casual voice. "Longer ones?" She'd always thought it would be better to fight with a longer sword. There was something about them, something special... "I guess I'll come visit you're shop then." She said, reluctantly. Hester, NO! You idiot! Stop while you still can! Don't get yourself tangled in with this! Stop being stupid! But Hester ignored her conscience, and sat tense on Storm, waiting for Rabastan to lead the way.
You can insert your swearword of choice where the #### is. >_< Haha, Hester grew up with some naughty kiddies. It's amazing what you pick up on the streets on Daism. Very colourful language... ^_^

Rabastan smirked as he mounted up, his face hidden from the girl behind him. And now the game begins he thought as he nudged his gelding into a swift trot. "You mean long swords?" He asked, his tone slightly amused. "I may, although I make no promises. My store tends to attract the darker crowd, although I have never done any murderous deeds myself, the items required sell for much more then normal ones." He quickly explained, not wanting to scare her. "I don't believe I've caught your name yet." He said, wanting to change the subject, there would be plenty of time to talk about his store once they were there.

(Instead of 'this', their mind speaking will now be --this-- because it's easier. ) Kavlin crept towards their home, an underground cellar abandoned as unsafe, hidden from sight behind a thick line of trees. The wooden door was set in the ground, splintered and cracked. When it rained, water crept in through the door and flooded the entire cellar, but it was the safest, warmest place they had managed to find. Kavlin hauled the door open. Reg stiffened on his shoulder as he began lifting, but he had opened it all the way before he could call out a warning. Kavlin froze, meeting the glares of several young men crouching in the cellar. *** Reg tensed as he caught the scent of several strangers in the cellar. The door banged open before he could say anything, and he cursed himself. Why hadn't he smelled the intruders before. Kavi took a small step backward beneath him. Kavi could fight when he had to, but he was small and the men in their home were larger and more numerous. --Oh god. Reg.-- --Run!-- But it was too late. One of the men had leaped up the creaking stairs and was pacing their way. --Get our loot, as much as you can carry,-- Kavi said, backing up another step and twisting a hand behind his back to make a way down. --Go! I'll be fine.-- Reg hesitated only a second. There was nothing he could do to help, not in such a small body. He dashed down Kavi's arm and slipped down the side of the stairs. The men were too busy scrambling up the stairs themselves to notice a small rodent on its way in. He hoped desperately they didn't drag Kavi down into the cellar, or he was trapped and there was no one to help him but a small rat. It only took a moment to climb into the hollow, hidden place where they kept their small stash. There was only one thing there now, an expensive golden necklace with a small jewel on it, something they kept there for emergencies. He grabbed it and slipped through a hole in the wall, climbing up splintering beams to emerge from the cellar not far from where the men had circled around Kavlin. Reg bristled as he heard the crack of a fist on bone and saw Kavi fall to the ground. He hid the necklace in the leaves under a bush and ran towards where the men were to help where he could. --Run when you can!-- He waited until Kavi had wobbled to his feet, then jumped in and sunk his teeth deep into one man's leg. The man howled and fell to the ground, giving Kavlin the chance he had been waiting for. He jumped over the prone man and took off back the way they had come, Reg catching onto his pant leg and holding on for dear life.

The expression on Tes's face was unfathomable, Sky had mention something twice that was being to bother her, drawing her away from her original purpose. Cally.... she thought, picking through the bits of conversation she overheard in the tavern. From what she had heard, the girl was an information gather...a good one. "Cally...she is an information gather is she not?" she whispered, her brows furrowed with concentration as she struggled to pull out the conversations she over heard. She cursed herself for not paying better attention, she might have missed something important. "Hmm....ah never mind then." she sighed, dismissing the thought at least until later. She could deal with the information gather later if need be, hopefully this Cally would have enough sense not the approach her outright. But then again her curiosity seemed to rival even Tes's. Tes leaned forward, her golden eyes boring down on Sky. "I have a few more questions, this probably the most important. But please don't think bad of me for it, I have my reasons.....Do you get many...royal guards here?" she whispered again, her voice was quieter if that was even possible. Sky's answer would be crucial to whether Tes could consider this place a safe haven for the next few days. She wasn't quite sure, but she suspected it was the royal guard who ambushed her and her brother, separating them. It wasn't hard to imagine that ridiculous human king sending out the order either, Tes had made herself seen far too many times and rumors began to surface of her survival. Any member of the Tsume clan could be seen as a threat to the kingdom, especially the daughter of Shikon...the very reason for the Northern Voskon War. *edit* fixed spelling, and added on more

Hester swallowed. The darker crowd. Lovely. Well. She was committed now. Might as well see how it turned out. Storm followed the gelding, though he was tense, and kept tossing his head. Hester hesitated. Name. Name... Should she make up a name, or just ell him hers? Hester was a good liar, but her weak point was making up names and sticking to them. She'd always turn around if someone yelled her real name out, or write it down by accident, if asked to sign something. "Hester." She said, making it very obvious she wasn't going to tell him her surname. She felt faintly sick, but ignored her instincts to walk away from this Rabastan right now. This could be her only chance to actually get her very own blade. She couldn't go up to an ordinary merchant in the marketplace, since that herd of cows, those gossiping ladies who wore huge hats and hung around prying into people's business would tell for sure. Relax. She bit her lip. Rabastan may not have any weapons she could see, but what if he suddenly tried to attack her, down some alley. She had no weapons. Not even a rock. She looked around hurriedly, and spotted a large-ish,but small enough to hold in one hand rock, and did a flying dismount, running to the side of the path, picked it up. Storm continued trotting, knowing that she'd probably be hopping back up sometime soon. She glanced at Rabastan's back. There was no way he wouldn'tve noticed that. Oh well. Nothing she could do about that. She ran up to Storm and swung herself up into the saddle. She'd just have to wait and see how things went, for better or for worse. But for all her doubts that this was a good idea, she couldn't help herself imagining walking out of a shop, gripping a long, thin package and smiling.

Sky shook her head. "No ma'am. Never have we had any royal guards here. The only time any guard comes here is when they are looking for someone or they want some Voskon Beer, my father is the only man who stocks it in town, and when they want some it's always one man who comes in." She told her. Sky desperately wanted to ask questions, why was this beautiful woman asking questions about the royal guard? Unless she was some sort of escaped prisoner. She racked her mind for any information on wanted women but came up with nothing. This calmed her slightly, but the knowledge of how many secrets the government kept from the public kept her on guard.
-----
Rabastan smiled as they approached a small shop in the centre of town. It was the kind of building you wouldn't notice unless you were specifically looking for it. The sign above the door showed a pair of small daggers crossed over with the words 'Dark Blade' underneath. He dismounted and tied the gelding to the hitching post outside before entering. "Claude, I am back." He called, pulling his robe back on. A small man with blonde hair raced to the front of the store and bowed to Rabastan and turned to Hester, doing the same to her. "Claude, bring out any of the long swords we have." he ordered. The small man nodded before racing out back "A couple of rapiers if we have any as well." Rabastan called.
Claude returned carrying 4 long swords and 3 rapiers and lay them out on the front bench. "Thank you Claude. That will be all." Claude nodded and left the pair alone. Rabastan examined the weapons, throwing the longest blade away. "I honestly don't know what I was thinking when I bought that one." He muttered, satisfied with the weapons. "I'm afraid I don't have many, as I said I deal with smaller items, but what do you think?"
(Edited to add Rabastan's response.)

SaRheia frowned deeply, more than a little uncomfortable with the situation. She was covered head to toe in black and bore as many scars as weapons as well as one very obvious tattoo. She looked far from trustworthy, and more like someone who'd slit your throat while you slept and steal everything you had that was worth anything. Yet here was someone inviting her into their home not even knowing her name. And not just a home--a manor--where there would likely be lots of things worth stealing. One of her hands dropped beneath the table into the shadows, grasping the hilt of her sword. She didn't yet draw the weapon, but she was ready to. She had been careless, realizing only then that this could be a setup--a trap prearranged by the city's guards for any assassins that might come wandering into town. She didn't want to hurt the girl in front of her because she seemed innocent enough, but she would preserve her own life at all costs. She threw a glance around the tavern, quickly sizing up the patrons. Few looked like guard material, and even less wore weapons. Still, she didn't relax. "Lady," she sighed. "If you have work for me, I'd be grateful to accept your coin in return for my services. However, I think it would be better for us both if I find my own boarding. I doubt it would do either of our reputations much good if I were to stay with you. Besides, we do not know each other even."

Tes's gaze relaxed and she sighed relieved. Good! she thought contently, "Ah yes I noticed the beer...that smell is quite distracting." she chuckled a little, Voskon beer had a very strong smell to anyone so she figured the comment was innocent enough. "I think I shall stay then." she said with a nod, pulling a few coins from the bag tied to her waist. She frowned mentally at its weight, it was rather light. That meant another trip into the forest after hunting so she could dig up some more of her loot. Perhaps she could take a few necklaces out to sell, it would give her an excuse to take a look at the town. Tes passed the coins over to Sky, "I have just one more question to pester you with, if you do not mind." she asked in her whispery voice, pulling the sleeve of her cloak up revealing her bracelets. On one of the delicate gold bracelets was a small pendent and when she snapped it open it showed an amazingly accurate painting of a very attractive young man.
Tes lean forward to show Sky the painting, "It is unlikely....that...this person would come here. Even more so that he would ask for me if he did....so would you be able to recognize him, if you saw him in life?" She chose her words very carefully as not to reveal to much. She took her wrist back and snapped the locket shut after stealing a glance at her glorious brother. She knew for sure Sky would know Edward when she saw him, he was not a sight many humans forgot. He was a poster boy of her clan, more beautiful than Tes herself. He despised that beauty however, claiming it was only bait for a prey he had no desire to hunt. "If you see him...will you come straight to me, and tell no one else?" she asked, the longing in her voice was hard to cover up.

Hester bobbed her head in an awkward half bow to Claude, and shifted from foot to foot as the little man brought out the swords. With one last wary glance at Rabastan, she leaned over slightly, but straightened again, and stepped around to the other side of the bench before examining the blades again, just as an extra safety measure. Hester wasn't usually this wary of people, but there was something funny about Rabastan. But then, maybe she was a bit prejudiced against merchants. Maybe it was his eyes. She placed her rock down on the bench, within reach, and leaned over the swords to look at them properly. She couldn't resist a sigh of wonder as she looked them over. "They're beautiful," She murmured, running her fingers lightly over each one. Of course, she'd been around blades before, delivering ones her father made and things, but she'd never seen such well-made ones. She inspected the rapiers first; none of them really suited her. Then the swords... The first one was too... Short and stout. Second, too heavy, much too heavy. Third... Ehh. Too light. She felt her heart sinking in disappointment. Maybe she woudln't find a good blade. Ever... But the last one, an unusually long, narrow one. She picked it up, and drew it from the scabbard. Light danced down the shining silver blade. Hester took a breath. It was beautiful... And it seemed perfectly balanced. Hester didn't have much experience with those things, but she could see it was a well made, strong weapon. The hilt was plain, but the crossguard seemed to have some sort of small etchings on it. Hester smiled. A dragon on one side, and when she turned it over, a galloping horse on the other. She ran her palm down the blade of the weapon. She could feel things scratched into the metal, letters, words of some language she couldn't understand. She squinted at it, and tested the edge with a finger, jerking her hand away when it cut her. She couldn't remember what the metal it was made out of was called, but she remembered it from when her father had been repairing some rich merchant's knife; He'd spent the rest of the night chattering about how strong the metal was. Hester looked up at Rabastan, her eyes shining. "How much for this one?" She knew she had at least 7 silver coins stashed away somewhere, hidden from Janira's prying eyes. It had originally been traveling money she'd been saving, but this was more important. She would probably be able to ferret out a couple more, maybe get a job. She stopped the flow of excited thoughts, and waited for Rabastan's answer, her stomach fluttering. XD My imagination ran away with itself again... Haha, my thing with long swords is that in Lord of the Rings 3, you know that scene where Elrond gives Aragorn the reforged sword? The camera goes up and up, and you're like 'whoa...' because the sword is so dang long. I thought that was really cool...

Rabastan chuckled and took the blade from Hester, examining it himself. "Ah, this is an interesting blade. Forged by an Elf and Norsla hybrid, who I do believe was killed shortly after forging it." He said, watching Hester carefully for an reaction. "Some say the blade is cursed, after all, one who carries the blood of both races is a threat on his own, but armed with a blade such as this. One with the magic of both races." He smirked. "Well, let's just say it's best he is no longer with us." He returned the blade to the table and walked over to a cabinet, pulling a short dagger from within. He placed the dagger alongside the sword. "This is it's twin. Forged with the scrap metal from that blade. As a pair they are a single gold coin. Individually they are 12 Silver each." He told her.
----
Sky jumped as Tes shut the locket, mesmerised by the image within. "O-of course ma'am." She stammered. She shook her head to focus her thoughts. "If you are not here ma'am where will I be able to locate you?" She asked, silently praying that he would come to the Inn.

Hester bit her lip. Cursed? She wasn't sure if she believed that. But it was possible, she supposed. Swords were special; perhaps this one had bonded with its owner particularly strongly. But Hester didn't sense anything evil about it... If anything, it felt like a perfect harmony. The hilt seemed made for her hand, it was just the right length. Though it seemed a little heavy now, it would be OK once she strengthened her arm muscles. 12 silver... She groaned inwardly. No job she'd looked at paid enough for her to be able to reach that amount... But she couldn't pass up this chance. She would've liked to buy the dagger as well, but she knew without even thinking too deeply about it that it was simply impossible. She stood still, thinking. She had 7 silver. A terrible thought hit her. The unicorn pendant. No, NO! Not that! Hester loved that pendant... She'd been given it when she was very young, and had worn it until the chain had broken, when she was about 14. Her father had tied a piece of string in a loop, so she could still wear it, but Hester hadn't dared put it on everyday, for fear of the string breaking, and her losing her treasure forever. She could remember her 7th birthday, when her grandfather had given it to her; "Hesterrrr... I have a present for you! Come inside!" She remembered dropping her stick, jumping off Blue, yelling a hurried goodbye to her friends, and running inside the forge, into the arms of her grandfather. "I was playing knights with Kaya again, Grampy!" She had said with a grin. "We were competing in sword on donkey-back, in the huge tournament that happens in Laosn every year!" Her grandfather had smiled and laughed, his grey-and-black beard tickling the top of her head. "You might be a real knight someday Hester." He'd told her, his green eyes twinkling. "But I'm a girl!" She'd protested, staring at him quizzically. "That doesn't matter. Here; Your present. The Unicorn, he'll help you on your way." She'd taken the small golden Unicorn head, laughing with delight. Hester blinked, her eyes snapping open and faint smile disappearing. She went red, embarrassed that she'd started dreaming in front of Rabastan. She swallowed, noticing a lump was forming in her throat. I've got to do this. "I... Don't have enough money." Hester forced the words out. "If you brought the price down to ten, maybe eleven silver pieces, I could get enough by the end of the day, if you reserved the sword for me." I hope I'm doing the right thing, Grampy. She thought grimly. If she did it right, she might be able to get a few silver coins for the Unicorn. She dropped her eyes from Rabastan's. She was getting closer... She might be able to achieve her silly childhood dreams of being a knight after all. It was unlikely. It was stupid. But it could happen... Then she could go off and have real adventures, not sit around at home, being a little girl dreaming of knights and battles. Ack. No matter how much I changed it, it sounded so corny. But you get the idea... Hester has had no adventures, she's pretty desperate. >_< Everyone else has huge problems and she's worried about buying swords.^_^ (Teeheehee, whenever I look at my long posts I start laughing. I'm sorry, I couldn't stop typing. :
