The Voskons
The Voskons are a people of shape shifters that live to the south of the Elven Forest. On the eastern side of the unforgiving South are the canine voskon, and to the west are the felines. Each species has their own ways, and each clan has their own traditions, laws and religion. Yet some do seem to have similarities in ways of tradition and religion.
Most Voskon spends most of their time in human form, for some it may be tradition others does it as not to be tempted too step over the boundary and become their other form permanent. Because very few Voskons can carry their animal form more then an few hours at a time without risking being caught in that form, those few that can remain a beast longer usually have paid a price for this since to frequently use of their animal form can lessen their humanity and also cause the change to be more painful.
Voksons are rare for many reason, one is that some humans fear them and think them an abomination to nature and therefore tries to kill them. Another is that Voskons have fewer children then most of the other races; this is due to a number of different reasons. Voskons lives in clans, packs or other groups and seldom interbreed with other clans, packs or groups. This has caused the fertility rate to drop a lot among them, and since they can’t interbreed with non-Voskons they can’t bring in new blood that way either to boost the fertility. So Voskons don’t get pregnant that often, those females that do have a good chance to carry through unless they change to often. Changing to often or doing it at all in the later part of the pregnancy can cause them to miscarry.
The consequences of changing frequently and/or keeping their form to long
- Their animal form starts to affect their human one first in small bits but it might grow larger as time passes.
- Their mind changes and they start to think and function more and more like the animal they can take the form of.
- They grow less fertile and might even grow sterile with time.
- The change becomes evermore painful with time as it is almost like the bones and muscles grow tired of the frequent change.
- The appeal to stay in animal forms longer and longer grows stronger and with time the character will probably end up being trapped in their animal form. Unless they have a great motivation that drives them to remain human.
- The change comes with more ease and takes less energy when you change often as the animal side grows stronger. This is also one of the reasons that the usually end up in animal form with time.
I'm still writing this but I wanted to post what I have so far to see what other people think.

NorslaIn the beginning, the Elves and Norsla were one race. United the lived in Starlana and the surrounding forest. When an old lion Voskon came into the forest and killed several unicorns, everything changed. When he returned to his human form, the lion voskon claimed he went mad with hunger having not eaten or shifted for days. The elves, being the trusting and peaceful creatures they are, accepted this reason and nurtured him back to health.
Several of the younger elves fought this decision. One going as far as to say she saw the lion stalk the unicorns, killing them methodically. Lapping their blood until it ceased to run before moving to the next one. Others supported her claim, saying one look at the massacre would confirm it. True to their nature, the elves ignored the claims of the younger generation.
Izosi, the elf who had witnessed the attack saw rage when the lion smiled, pleased with himself for not getting caught. Calming herself, she stormed off into the forest, taking with her the few who supported her. Four nights after the attack, it happened again. On this occasion only one unicorn was killed, and it looked to be an accidental death.
Convinced it was the lion, Izosi went to the elders, demanding they either kill the beast, or banish him from the forest. Again they denied her the revenge she wanted. Her followers were growing in number, many of them had been hurt by the attacks on their beloved animals. Late that night, Izosi crept into the room the lion slept, with stealth uncommon to the elves, and killed him.
The following morning was mayhem. Knowing who had murdered the lion, the older elves wanted Izosi to bare the same fate. However, she had other plans. After the murder, those who followed her had left the forest travelling to the mountain range to the east. Only Izosi remained. Refusing to speak to anyone but the King, she sat in the glade where the first unicorn was slain and waited, knowing her kin wouldn't harm her. "We can't remain in a forest where known killers are healed and blessed. We have made our descision, knowing we cannot return." The king nodded, accepting her words. "Know this my daughter, you and your kin shall forever be welcome in this forest, for it is your home. At dawn or dusk you may request entry. If the forest deems you worthy, you may return." Izosi smiled softly and rose. Walking to the king she embraced him. "Thank you Father."
Many of the elves died on the journey to the mountains, and half as many turned back. Those that remained developed gradual changes. Their hair was the first to change, after a year of being away from Starlana, it began to darken. After two, it was solid black and nothing could change it. The children born outside the forest were the first to feel the real effects of the Mountain range, as life was tough, only the strongest survive, and constant battles rang out.
It's unknown when the Azaezel came into the equation. One night a lone Norsla was approached by one. With the dark beast by her side, the woman took control of the Norsla community and turned them into what they are today. A race of near perfect killing machines. The better you are at your job, the higher up the mountain you live. Only the lowest of the low farm the fertile lands at the bottom of the Mountain.General info- Often act superior to others. Come in one of two varieties: Honour-bound, and those who aren't.
- All have black hair. Consider those with the darkest hair to be the most pure.
- Born with blue eyes.
- Eyes turn either Red, Black or Silver after about 4 years of age.
- Silver eyed children are often abandoned or sent to the farms as workers. Considered worthless.
- Legend says that a Norsla child born with red eyes will be the most powerful mage in existence.
- Only 3 children have been born with red eyes, 2 were murdered and one died attempting to cast a spell.
- Only 1 in 20 can tame an Azaezel.
Azazel. As black as ebony, these equine like beasts bare not only a horn of a unicorn, but large black dragon like wings. The hooves of the creature are like molten lava running down basalt; the hooves appear to be ever moving, and when the touch the ground fire like sparks appear. Azazel will ONLY appear at night.

ELF Elves are known to be graceful magic users. Their magic is mainly self defence and earth based magic. Elves are softly spoken, and keep their emotions in check at all times. Their weapons of choice are bows (which are all hand made by the wielder, no elf will use another's bow) or daggers.

DwarfThe dwarves are a relatively isolated race, each mine a self-contained mini-civilization within itself. Being fiercely protective of their mines has lead dwarven society to become self-sustaining, independent of other races. Their only purpose for venturing outside the mines is to bring in luxuries from the outside world through trading the products of their mining. This leaves successful miners and smiths with the wealth of kings, and little religion to speak of aside from the near worship of their wealth and the gratitude they pay to the mother earth who has given them their riches.
When dwarves do venture from their mines to trade, it is the men who do so. If a dwarf values anything more than his mine and his wealth, it is his wife and daughters. As visitors to the mines are rare and female dwarves leaving the mines are relatively unheard of, little to nothing is known about dwarf women in the outside world, though rumours abound.
The Dargosl are another great love of dwarf kind, and another thing they do not share with the world. They serve many purposes, from acting as mounts to pack animals, to using their broad, rock-hard skulls to help the dwarves mine or to act as natural shields for their riders in battle. While the dargosl are used even when the dwarves venture out of the mines, they are closely guarded by their owners. Ownership of the dim-witted, placid beasts belongs solely to the dwarves.
Dwarven enchanters are rare, and solely a female talent. Enchanters are usually mad and generally don't live past the age of about 20, which for a race of people who generally live to 120 years of age (the oldest recorded was 156), is still a child. The birth of an enchanter is a mine wide celebration which usually lasts for a few days. An Enchanter is identified by their white hair, the strength of the Enchanter is determined by their eyes. Light brown, green, blue or grey means an elemental enchanter, while pure white means they can enchant with all elements. General info- Eye colours are very dark, usually dark brown and black. Those with dark green, blue and grey are descended from Enchanters.
- Hair colour is also very dark. Black, brown and reds are most common. There are a couple of fair haired dwarves who descend from the last King, Dnard Shalehand.
- There are 8 mine families and 4 fighter famines.
- The 8 mine families are : Shalehand, Bronzecutter, Gemcrusher, Redmine, Redbeard, Marbleslasher, Bloodflame and Stonesmelter
- The 4 fighter families are: Prayerblade, Axemaker, Goblinsmasher, Bloodtracker.
- Marriages between families/mines are very rare.
- Dargosl breeders are highly respected. There are two Dargosl families (Shaleiron and Shalecairn) who can recruit dwarves from any family.
- There is one Trading Family (Honorhammer) who takes the first born child from every family (except Shaleiron and Shalecairn) each year to ensure fairness. This is the only family allowed to travel to topside to human cities to trade dwarven goods.

FALSKO A race believed to be of human origin. Falsko are known to be 'wild' and very active. They are hunters by nature and have a reputation of being cannibals (although this is completely unproven). Falsko are rumoured to have a way with animals. King Logan was scared of these people and eradicated them shortly after Kallistos disappeared, although there are still a few survivors. They look like a cross between and elf and a human. EYE COLOUR: Teal, aqua or white HAIR COLOUR: Always blood red. CARRIER ANIMALS: None
