Daism
Daism is the second largest city in Kylanda, it houses close to 10 000 people permanently and around 2000 visitors, ambassadors, travelling merchants and such. It is a large city with a lot of trade; there are several marketplaces throughout the city and a harbour that covers the largest part of the eastern side of the city. Daism is ruled by Duke Morgan Lee, a known lackey of the King Logan. Duke Mogan Lee is not the most popular of rulers, nor the most competent. But unless he tries to get some ridiculous decree or law through he doesn’t seem to bother the population of Daism to much and they don’t bother him in return.
Daism is a large city and has grown through the centuries into what it is today. But due to fires, the occasional riots and battles that has filled the history of the city there aren’t much to be found of the original Daism. Most of the city actually seems to have seen more then a few decades, this is due to the last big fire in Daism some 50 years ago that whipped out a big portion of the buildings in the newer parts of Daisim. Only leaving the Noble Quarter, The Dukes Residence and the Temple Districts completely untouched. After that fire new districts was set up and today Daism is a much organised city with districts for different purposes. Trade District, Dock District, Noble Quarter, Lower City, Temple District, South Gate District, North Gate District and the Travellers Quarter.
The Trade District
The trade District is the heart of Daism. It lies close to the centre of the city, wedged between the North- and South Gate District as well as bordering to the Lower City and the Dock District to the east. The trade district is a busy place where there always seems to be a lot of people. Everything you could ever need can be found here, for the right price of course. There are clothiers, merchants, bakers, butchers, taverns, armourers, weapon smiths, chandlers – well pretty much everything you could need to find can be found here. The market places that are found here and there in this district also offers exotic trade goods such as ivory, pelts of animals from far of countries, spices and much, much more. Most of the taverns in this district welcome anyone with money, and most prices are in the middle range.
The Lower City
The Lower City is the shabbiest of the districts in Daism. It lies to the east of the Southern Gate District, next to the Dock District. This is the part of town that the poor and unfortunate live in, it’s littered with beggars and thieves and is therefore not such a nice place to be or live. In the Lower city you can with some luck get a hold of anything you wish for a fair price as long as you don’t ask where it cam from, or who “found it”. The Lower City is also the place to visit if you wish to hire “thugs” to do your business here or to find the cheapest ale around, though I would not recommend that you ask what it truly is for there is no limit of what a tavern keeper in this place will do to stretch a barrel of ale a little longer.
The Dock District
The Dock District is almost as busy as the trade district, there always seems to be something going on. The dock is placed by a bay of the ocean so sea trade is an important part of Daisms’ economy, and the different cultures that mix in this district means that there’s always something new to be seen. But besides the mesmerizing colours, speeches, smells and different cultures blend there is also a streak of something a lot rawer in most people in the Dock District. A lot of people seem armed and you will see a lot of people with scars. There are even rumours of some kind of gangs having wars between themselves in this district; this is just a rumour though. But fact is that the Dock District has the highest murder count in the whole of Daism, and very few of those murders are ever cleared up.
The Southern Gate District
The Southern Gate District is actually the least flavoured of all the districts in Daism. This might be due to the fact that the bigger part of this sector is housing and little more. Stone houses two or three stories high at least looms around these streets in rows of strictness and only here and there are three a few signs calling to your attention that there is a tavern or a shop here. Along the city wall there are also a large almost storehouse like building that houses one third of the city guard.
The Northern Gate District
The Northern Gate district is what used to be the Elven Quarter before the rage of King Logan forced them back into the forest. Now most of the elven structures were torn down as the sector was searched for elven riches left behind and has since been replaced with structures close to those in the Southern gate district, but you can still find a few structures and ornaments that were left untouched by this handling. But in much the Northern Gate District is the same as the Southern Gate District, a lot of housing and the occasional shop or tavern.
The Travellers Quarter
The Travellers Quarter is actually a set of blocks that separates the newer parts of the city from the older ones. It stretches from the southern wall to the northern and is connected to both the gate districts and the trade district in the east and the Noble Quarter and The Temple District in the West. This area is surprisingly quiet for the most part of the day, but during the night it is filled with life since the biggest parts of hostels, places of pleasures and taverns are located here. This is also where the embassies for other races and countries are normally found. The Town square is also located in the heart of this district.
An introduction to each district as well as more info on Daism will be coming soon…
